Work on a new nature conservation plan for Beberbēķi Nature Park in Mārupe Municipality has begun. The plan will set out how this unique area is to be managed and developed over the next twelve years.
The first information meeting will take place on 30 October 2025 at 18:00 at the "Skulte" community centre (Skultes iela 31, Skulte, Mārupe Municipality). It will also be possible to join the meeting online. We invite residents and everyone interested to take part, learn about the planned activities, and share proposals and ideas.
Beberbēķi Nature Park is located in Mārupe Municipality, was established in 1977 and covers 268 ha. Since 2004 the park has been part of the Natura 2000 network of protected sites of European importance. The park was created to safeguard biologically valuable pine forests and dune landscapes that are important for Latvia's biodiversity. Five types of forest biotopes of European importance occur here. Protected species — black woodpecker, red-breasted flycatcher and otter — live in the park. Beberbeķi lake and the surrounding forests are also a popular walking and recreation spot for residents of Mārupe and Riga.
The previous park conservation plan was in force from 2003 to 2013, so a fresh approach is now needed. The new plan will set out measures for preserving and managing natural values, controlling invasive species, proposals for improving infrastructure, and a balanced development of natural, social and economic interests.
Until 20 November 2025 anyone is invited to submit proposals in writing, addressed to SIA "Ecosystem solutions Latvia" (Lastādijas iela 12 k-3, Riga, LV-1050; email: info@ecosoul.bio).
